Mud (German: mud ) was a British glam rock - band of the 1970s.
Band history
The group was founded in Carshalton, Surrey, England in 1966 by school friends Les Gray, Dave Mount, Ray Stiles and Rob Davis. At first she was one of many third-rate, poorly paid British club bands until she got a contract with Mickie Most in 1972 with the record company RAK Records .
The producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman (Chinnichap) built Mud as another glam rock band alongside their other successful products like The Sweet and around the same time Suzi Quatro and Smokie .
Rock 'n' stomp numbers like Crazy , Dyna-Mite , Tiger Feet , The Cat In Crept , Rocket and the Buddy Holly - Cover Oh Boy stormed the European charts. Between 1973 and 1976 Mud placed eleven titles in the British top ten, and this success was achieved five times in Germany. Less known is her version of Glenn Miller's In the Mood , which was released as a single in 1974 under the band name Dum. After the collaboration with RAK Records and the duo Chinn / Chapman ended in mid-1975 (the last original single on RAK was One Night ), the group was still with Private Stock Records (from L'Lucy ), RCA Records and Carrere, among others under contract. When there was no further success, the band broke up in 1980.
Guitarist Rob Davis later co-wrote hits like Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) ( Spiller , 2000) or Can't Get You out of My Head ( Kylie Minogue , 2001). Bassist Ray Stiles has been a member of the Hollies since 1986 .
The singer Les Gray died of a heart attack in February 2004 after developing cancer. In December 2006, drummer Dave Mount died.
