Count Georg Alexander Heinrich Herrmann von Callenberg (born February 8, 1744 in Muskau ; † May 4, 1795 in Muskau) was the electoral Saxon Privy Councilor , registrar of the Free Morality of Muskau in Upper Lusatia and President of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences

Georg Alexander Henry Herrmann of Callenberg came from the Westphalian dynasty of Callenberg with headquarters calenberg castle in Warburg . His parents were Count Johann Alexander von Callenberg (1697–1776) and his wife Rahel Luisa Henriette born. von Werthern (1726–1753).

On August 24, 1769, he married Marie Henriette Olympe de la Tour du Pin (1746–1771) in Dresden . They had two children, Johann Alexander von Callenberg and Clementine Kunigunde Charlotte Olympia Luise von Callenberg (1770–1850), who married Ludwig Karl Johann Erdmann von Pückler (1754–1811) in 1784/85 . Their son was the landscape designer Hermann von Pückler-Muskau (1785–1871).

Georg Alexander von Callenberg's second marriage was with Marianne Wilhelmine Eleonore von Oertzen (1746-1809).

Live and act

His father Johann Alexander von Callenberg issued his own church and school regulations in 1745. To promote reading, writing and singing, he founded elementary and country schools for the predominantly Wendish population.

His son Georg Alexander continued these efforts. Under the patronage of the Callenbergs, school books were printed at their own expense, the Wendish poor were supported and money donated to the school institutions through the local pastor. Georg Alexander von Callenberg, after a 40-year break and at the request of the citizens, renewed the Muskau Rifle Guild in 1776 and is considered to be its founder after the revival. In 1780 Callenberg became president of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences . He was also a knight of the Order of St. John .
