Callenberg (noble family)
Callenberg (Calenberg) is the name of an extinct German noble family that descended from the ancient nobility of Paderborn Abbey . The headquarters are in the eponymous castle Calenberg near Warburg .
history
Under the original family name " Berkule " or "Berkule von Holzhausen", the knights Hermann and Bernhard are mentioned in 1191 as builders of the Holsterburg . Around 1250 they built the hilltop castle Calenberg , after which the family was named from then on. It later spread to Hesse and Thuringia and Denmark.
In 1644, the free state rule of Muskau , which comprised the north-eastern part of Upper Lusatia , came into the possession of the Lords of Callenberg through the marriage of the heiress Ursula Catharina Burggräfin zu Dohna . In 1651 Curt Reinicke von Callenberg was elevated to the status of imperial baron as lord of the Muskau class and already 20 years later to the status of count (Vienna, June 18, 1671).
The Counts of Callenberg were until the inheritance of the Free Standesherrschaft Muskau to the Counts Pückler in the 19th century by the last Countess Callenberg, Clementine (born June 5, 1770 in Muskau, † March 8, 1850 in Pülswerda) free noblemen on Muskau . This is not to be confused with the imperial estate of the imperial counts . They did not have them, so they were not mediated and even after the Congress of Vienna in 1815 they were not made into (noble) noblemen.

- The family coat of arms shows two diagonally crossed red morning stars (maces) in silver , with a red rose in between. On the helmet with red-silver helmet covers between an open red (also silver-red or red-silver) flight piston and rose.
- The increased coat of arms from 1500 is split. On the right in red a slanting silver (also gold) bar covered with a black dragon ( von der Wyndelen ), on the left in silver the red maces (already represented similarly in the Siebmacher of 1605 drinking feathers ) with the red rose covered with gold. Helmet covers and ornaments as on the family coat of arms.
- The count's coat of arms from 1654 is quartered and covered with a heart shield. In this two slanted red maces or boar feathers, between the tips of which stands a red rose with gold insolation. Fields 1 and 4 show a golden (silver) slanting bar in red, inside a black, gold-reinforced leopardized griffin (with dragon wings = similar to Wyndelen). Fields 2 and 3 have a gold-reinforced and crowned black eagle in gold. The heraldic figures are repeated as a helmet ornament.
- One of the many variants of the Count's coat of arms shows in fields 1 and 4 the griffin (dragon) of the Wyndelen and as a heart shield the family coat of arms, sometimes with red boar feathers instead of the clubs. Shield holders are two golden griffins.
