Georg Bartels (born December 10, 1843 in Berlin ; † January 30, 1912 there ) was a German photographer and architectural photographer . Between 1886 and 1912 he worked as a photographer for the Märkisches Provinzialmuseum in Berlin. Bartels initially ran a studio at Oranienstrasse 81/82, and later at Stendaler Strasse 13.
His photos are assigned to the so-called “ city edge iconography ”, in which existing buildings are mixed with new architecture or infrastructure. Bartels also often photographed the working urban population, which he liked to post in a hierarchical arrangement.
Many of Georg Bartel's photographs are preserved in the photo collection of the Stadtmuseum Berlin Foundation .
