Georg Bessell

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Otto Adolph Bessell (born September 27, 1891 in Magdeburg , † September 13, 1976 in Bremen ) was a Bremen teacher and historian.

life and work

From 1919 Bessell worked in the school service of Bremerhaven, since 1929 he was active as a teacher at the old grammar school in Bremen. His main work is the extensive history of Bremerhaven from 1927, and he also wrote popular accounts of the history of Bremen and Bremerhaven. In the 1950s he shifted to the creation of various anniversary publications by institutions and companies, including a "old-fashioned, Lloyd -blessed" story of North German Lloyd .

His politically conservative view of Bremen's history, which he saw as being embedded in the development of the Prussian-German nation-state, hardly differed from that of other Bremen historians of his generation.
