Georg Brandes (singer)
Georg Wilhelm Brandes ( 29 March 1836 in Hannover - 14. August 1901 ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ), theater director and -intendant .
Life
Brandes began his stage work in Trier in 1862, then worked successfully in Chemnitz, Stettin, Königsberg, Braunschweig and Frankfurt from 1872 to 1881 as a singer and later as a director, and in 1883 took over the management of the Wroclaw City Theater , which he led until 1892. From 1892 to 1894 he was director of the Mainz City Theater and from 1895 to 1899 he was again chief director in Frankfurt. Then he withdrew from the stage. He was a member of the Frankfurter Masonic Lodge Zur Einigkeit and the Königsberg Lodge Immanuel .
His daughters were Margarethe Brandes and Helene Brandes (opera singers) and Wilhelmine Brandes and Alice Verden-Brandes (theater actresses).
