Georg Christian Freund (born February 7, 1821 in Altona , † April 6, 1900 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish sculptor .

Georg Christian Freund was a student of his uncle Hermann Ernst Freund and Herman Wilhelm Bissens . With them he learned the craft of sculpture at the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen. Already in 1840 he worked with both the Ragnarok frieze of Christiansborg Palace with. He received great recognition very early on; several medals and cash prizes have been awarded to him. From 1854 to 1865 he lived in Rome on a state scholarship . In 1869 he became a member of the Copenhagen Academy, in 1892 a professor there and in 1898 a knight of the Order of Dannebrog .

Freund was best known for his genre paintings, which he executed in bronze, marble and plaster. His work can be found in museums such as the National Gallery in Berlin , but also in public spaces such as the Uthleder St. Nicolai Church, for which he created the marble reliefs “Last Supper” and “Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan”.

One of his works is the ball player .
