Georg Eichler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Eichler (born November 5, 1976 ) is a German basketball coach. Until December 2017 he was the head coach of the German women's record champions TSV Wasserburg .

career

Eichler worked in various functions for FC Bayern Munich between 1998 and 2006 , worked as youth coordinator and from 2001 to 2004 and from 2004 to 2006 as head coach of the FCB men's team.

After positions as head coach with the regional league clubs DJK Landsberg (2006/07) and TG Landshut (2007/08), he worked as an assistant coach for the Bundesliga club TSV Nördlingen in the 2008/09 season .

At the end of December 2009, Eichler took over as head coach at the second division club Science City Jena until the end of the 2009/10 season and then moved to the Bundesliga club BBC Bayreuth as an assistant coach . In March 2011 he returned to Jena, took over the post of head coach again and led the threatened team to relegation. In the following two seasons, Jena reached the playoffs under Eichler and advanced to the semi-finals in 2013. From 2012 he was also assistant coach of the German women's national team . Following the 2012/13 season, Eichler's tenure in Jena ended.

Eichler then worked for the Bavarian Basketball Association, among other things supervising the Bavarian team as a coach before he was hired as head coach by the women's Bundesliga club TSV Wasserburg in 2015 . In his first season (2015/16) Eichler led the team to win the German championship and triumph in the German cup competition. In 2016/17, Wasserburg again won the DBBL Cup and the championship title under his leadership.

Just before Christmas 2017, Eichler and TSV Wasserburg parted ways. It was said in the association's justification that there were “different ideas about the sporting direction for the rest of the season”. At the end of May 2018, his return to Wasserburg was announced, but ultimately there was no renewed collaboration due to financial restrictions of the association. He later worked as a youth coach at the International Basketball Academy in Munich .
