Georg Esser (born April 20, 1928 in Wiesdorf ; † July 29, 2020 in Cologne ) was a painter and graphic artist.

Life

After training as a bricklayer and working on the construction site, Esser studied from 1948 to 1952 at the Cologne factory schools in the class of graphic designer Alfred Will . Since 1963 he has been working as a freelance artist with his own studio in Cologne-Heimersdorf . From 1965 to 1967 he completed the Cologne factory teacher seminar and from 1967 to 1980 he was an art teacher at the Cologne-Chorweiler grammar school.

Georg Esser worked in expressive, representational painting primarily in acrylic or oil. The artist mastered the technique of separating form and color, which was developed in the Middle Ages, and applies it to modern painting, still life, portraits and aluminum prints. 1928-1944

born as the second son of the trade unionist Everhard Esser and his wife Margarete, b. Cutter. Visit of the Realschule Dagobertstraße in Cologne. Start of an apprenticeship as a bricklayer in 1944

1944-1948

Flak helper at the age of 16, then drafted for military service. American prisoner of war in the Sedan and Attichy camps . After discharge in 1945. Resumption and completion of the mason apprenticeship. Work in an architecture office in Cologne.

1948-1952

Studied at the Cologne factory school in Alfred Will's graphics class

1953-1967

Work as a freelance painter and graphic artist in Cologne and Frankfurt. Intensive exhibition activity. Married Marianne Förster in 1955.

1967-1980 after additional training at the Kölner Werklehrerseminar employment as an art teacher at the high school Cologne-Chorweiler ; Further development of your own painting style, dealing with natural forms.

1980 retired from school and worked as a freelance painter. Holding art courses, etc. a. in the WDR and the Melanchthon Academy Cologne.
