Life

Erfurt, Fischmarkt 6 - Georg Friedrich Breitenbach's place of residence and work

Breitenbach came from Heidelberg and came to Erfurt in 1622, where he married in 1636 and took over the imperial post office.

From 1648 he lived in the house zur Güldenen Krone in Erfurt, today Fischmarkt 6 , which from then on was used as an imperial post office until 1683. There he had a newspaper printed for Erfurt and the surrounding area in 1644.

As a postmaster, Breitenbach knew how to gain the favor of the Erfurt citizen Hiob Rudolph von Utzberg, who was the last living representative of his noble family and who owned extensive property. While he was still alive, he managed to get the elector Johann Georg II of Saxony in 1670 and 1674 to issue a written entitlement to the electoral Saxon loan pieces from Udestedt and Walschleben if Job Ru-dolph von Utzberg should die without a male heir. The death occurred on December 7, 1677. Utzberg's corpse was not yet buried, when Breitenbach turned to the Elector of Saxony with an application for an enfeoffment with Utzberg's loan pieces in Udestedt and Walschleben. The loan took place in 1678.

He was married to Anna Maria, born Ziegler (1621–1676), died at the age of 80 as a widower and left behind two sons, Hieronymus Friedrich and Johann Carl Breitenbach, as heirs as feudal heirs. The former followed in his father's footsteps and, like him, became a postmaster in Erfurt. Hieronymus Friedrich Breitenbach died as the imperial postmaster on May 8, 1725 in Erfurt, leaving behind three sons.

His daughter Regina Sophie Breitenbach (* October 7, 1640; † September 27, 1676) was from 1663 the first wife of the poet, playwright, writer, scholar and linguist Kaspar von Stieler .
