Georg Goldstein (photographer)

Georg Goldstein (* 1898 in Proskurow , Russian Empire , † 1980 in Düsseldorf ) was a German- Jewish doctor and press photographer .

Life

In 1907 the Goldstein family emigrated to Germany with Georg Goldstein . After graduating from high school, Georg Goldstein studied medicine in Frankfurt and Bonn with a doctorate in 1928.

After completing his doctorate in 1930, Goldstein opened a doctor's practice as a specialist in internal medicine at Pempelforter Str. 11 in Düsseldorf . However, it was after the seizure of power of the NSDAP in 1933 health insurance license revoked. In 1934 his naturalization granted in 1929 was revoked, and in May 1936 his practice was finally forcibly closed. As a Zionist , he worked as a medical officer for the Palestine Office in Berlin in 1936 , where he prepared for his emigration.

Then he hiked with his wife Ilse Goldstein nee Frank moved from Moers to Palestine and opened his practice in Tel Aviv-Jaffa in 1937 . In 1953 he returned to Düsseldorf with his wife out of disappointment with developments in Israel with the opposition between Jews and Arabs . He worked as an internist until 1973.

As an avid photographer , Goldstein always worked as a press photographer . He left behind a collection of 11,000 negatives, which his widow Ilse Goldstein gave to the Steinheim Institute in 1990 for archiving , digitization and building a database for future online presentation.
