Georg Heike

Georg Heike (born July 21, 1933 in Łódź ) is a German phonetician , linguist , musician and composer . Until his retirement in 1998, he headed the Institute for Phonetics at the University of Cologne , where he particularly advanced the technical and acoustic phonetics .

Life

After high school he studied in Bonn musicology , phonetics, communication research and psychology at the local university and was at 1960 Werner Meyer-Eppler his doctorate at the Institute of Phonetics and Communication Sciences. He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Marburg . In 1969 he became a full professor for phonetics in Cologne. At the same time and beyond that he was heavily involved in violin making, as a composer and in performances of contemporary and new music, and not least in musical acoustics . Together with Karlheinz Stockhausen he was a lecturer at the Cologne courses for new music . He dealt intensively with harmony and counterpoint . Heike plays the violin, viola and piano. From 2000 to 2003 he organized a series of concerts with contemporary spatial music and speech music together with musicians from the region, the University of Cologne and the Cologne initiative KunstWerk . At the 2nd  Cologne Music Night on November 22, 2006, Heike's Zungenwerk was premiered in the Alte Feuerwache in Cologne , a composition for voices, piano and double bass freely based on Hans Magnus Enzensberger , which he dedicated to the trio sprechbohrer . Georg Heike lives in Euskirchen .
