Georg Karg (economist)

Georg Karg (* 1941 in Schreckelberg , Lindau district (Lake Constance) ) is a German household economist.

Life

After graduating from high school in Kempten in 1961 , Georg Karg studied agricultural science, economics and statistics (1961–1971) at the Technical University of Munich , Montpellier University and Iowa State University . In 1979 he became professor for economics of the household at the Technical University of Munich. From 1982 to 1984 he was director and professor at the Institute for Nutritional Economics and Sociology at the Federal Research Institute for Nutrition in Hohenheim.

From 1984 to 2007 he held the chair for household economics at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan. From 1998 to 2007, as dean of studies, he was in charge of the reorganization of the diploma course in nutritional science into the undergraduate bachelor's and master's degree programs in nutritional science and the non-consecutive master’s programs in Consumer Science (2004-2008) and Consumer Affairs (from 2009).

From 2002 to 2005 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture and from 2002 to 2006 of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Life Science Center of the University of Hohenheim.
