Georg Ludwig Stäbenhaber

Georg Ludwig Stäbenhaber , also Georg Ludwig Stebenhaber , (* 1640 in Hetzlinshofen , † 1708 in Memmingen ) was a German civil engineer and cartographer .

Life

Stäbenhaber worked from 1668 under master builder Matthias Weiß (1636–1707) as an assistant and inspector at the Freudenstadt Fortress . He was responsible for the construction of the water pipe tunnels down from the Schöllkopf and the source catchment at the former Eberhard bulwark. In autumn 1674 he finished work on the Freudenstadt Fortress and was in charge of the repair of the Kniebisschanzen. From 1675 until his death in 1708 he was city commander in Memmingen .

He became known through the map of the Freudenstädter Forest from 1675. Because of the high accuracy of the representation, this map is a valuable historical document today.
