George Pope

Georg Friedrich Papst (born August 2, 1935 in St. Georgen ; † March 10, 2012 ) was a German electrical engineer and entrepreneur .

Career

Papst was born as the son of the electrical engineer and inventor Hermann Papst (1902–1981). He graduated in 1958 a degree in electrical engineering in Karlsruhe as a graduate engineer (FH), and was following in his father's company, which Motoren GmbH Pope in St. Georgen in the Black Forest in charge as managing director of the technical department of the company. After the death of his father he took over the management of the company together with his brother Günther, but was forced to sell the company to EBM-Werke in 1992 under pressure from the banks.

In 1993 he founded in Spaichingen the Papst Licensing GmbH for the exploitation of patents from the Pope engines. The result was a global patent exploitation company specializing in the prosecution of patent infringements. In 2002 the company moved to St. Georgen in the Black Forest.
