Georg Plate

Georg Plate (born March 29, 1950 in Lübeck ) is a German manager in the field of private universities . He was the founding rector and long-time chairman of the board of the private Nordakademie University of Applied Sciences .

Life

Plate studied industrial engineering at the Technical University (TU) Berlin with a degree in engineering and business education at the Free University of Berlin with a degree as a business teacher. He did his doctorate in 1977 at the Technical University of Berlin under Konrad Mellerowicz on the subject of the bankruptcy balance sheet .

He gained practical experience at a market research institute as well as in auditing and management consultancy before moving to the Schleswig-Holstein Business Academy (WAK) as a project manager in 1981 . There he built up the dual course in industrial engineering at the Schleswig-Holstein vocational academy . In 1982 he was given overall management of the Schleswig-Holstein University of Cooperative Education; at the same time he became a member of the management of the WAK. Under his leadership, the number of students in three dual study programs rose from 160 to approx. 940, with the participation of approx. 300 companies.

In 1992 he became the founding rector and managing director of the private Nordakademie University of Applied Sciences. In 1993 he was appointed professor and took on teaching and research tasks at the Nordakademie . Until 2013, he headed the Nordakademie in a dual role as Chairman of the Board and President, then as Chairman of the Board of Management until he retired in March 2018.

On October 1, 2017, Plate became Chairman of the Board of the Nordakademie-Stiftung . On October 1, 2018, he was appointed chairman of the supervisory board of the Nordakademie non-profit corporation.

In 2015 he founded the non-profit Georg Plate Foundation (GPS), which promotes projects in the fields of education, science and culture. He and his wife Christiane Plate form the foundation's board of directors.
