Georg Renkewitz
Georg Renkewitz (also George Renckewitz ; born December 29, 1687 in Mulda , Saxony , † August 12, 1758 in Schellenberg , Saxony) was an organist and organ builder in Augustusburg.
life and work
Georg Renkewitz lived in Reichenau near Frauenstein and trained as a teacher in Burkersdorf . He learned organ building from Gottfried Silbermann . He is also said to have been a good watchmaker.
In 1718 he was employed as an organist, probably also as a cantor and teacher, in Schellenberg. In 1720 Georg Renkewitz repaired the organ in Mittweida , in 1725 in St. Jacobi in Chemnitz . In 1740 he began building an organ for the Augustusburg palace chapel , which was not completed until 1784 by Carl Gottfried Bellmann. This has been preserved after renovations, originally with I / P, 18, now I / P, 15.
