Georg Singer (politician)

Georg Singer (born May 31, 1898 - † April 25, 1942 in Lublin ) was a German journalist, KPD politician and resistance fighter against the Nazi system.

Life

Singer, the son of Jewish parents, lived in Magdeburg on Blauebeilstrasse in Magdeburg's old town . He became a member of the KPD early on and worked as an editor at the Tribüne , a magazine of this party. He appeared both before and after the Nazis came to power in 1933 as a speaker at party events of the KPD and as a speaker at demonstrations.

Due to his Jewish origins, he was arrested and imprisoned first in Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1941 or 1942 , and later in Lublin concentration camp . He died here on April 25, 1942.

In the city of Magdeburg a street ( Georg-Singer-Straße ) was named in his honor.
