Georg Stauber

Georg Stauber (born May 24, 1875 in Nuremberg ; † 1952 ) was a German mechanical engineer.

Life

Georg Stauber came from an old Nuremberg bourgeoisie on both his father's and his mother's side. His father was the factory owner Michael Stauber. His mother Margarethe was born Defet. After attending secondary and industrial schools in Nuremberg, he studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich . In 1893 he became a member of the Corps Rheno-Palatia Munich . As a one-year volunteer , he served in Infantry Regiment No. 14 in Nuremberg and later became a reserve officer. After completing his studies in 1898, he first worked as an engineer at Dieselmotoren AG in Augsburg and Berlin-Anhalter Maschinen AG in Dessau. In 1902 he switched to Alois Riedler as a construction engineer at the Technical University in Berlin . In 1904 he was appointed full professor for metallurgical engineering at RWTH Aachen University. In 1908 he was appointed full professor for the same subject at the Technical University of Berlin. During the First World War he served as captain of the reserve, most recently as an industrial advisor to the War Office of the 1st Bavarian Army Corps in Munich, awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He taught and researched in Berlin until 1937, when he was dismissed from university.

Stauber was the inventor of the Stauber gas turbine named after him, which he developed from 1918 together with the Voith machine factory in Heidenheim. He was co-editor of the manual for rolling mills . The Technical University of Berlin included him in the list of Scientists expelled from the Technical University of Berlin for racial and political reasons .
