Georg Werner (born August 7, 1608 in Bopfingen , † September 29, 1671 in Helmstedt ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

The son of the cloth merchant Michael Werner and his wife Ursula Müller, had attended the school in his home town and the old town high school in Magdeburg , which was then under the direction of the rector Sigismund Evenius . In 1629 he moved to the University of Wittenberg to study law. On the side, he earned his living as a tutor to District Administrator Matthias von der Schulenburg and moved to Helmstedt University on September 4, 1638 as a guardian of some nobles . Here Johann Thomas Cludius , Johann Lotich and Heinrich Schmerheim were his teachers.

On September 24, 1640, after his exams, he held his inaugural disputation as a private lecturer, became an associate professor at the Faculty of Law on October 7, 1646, became an assessor at the Princely Court in Wolfenbüttel on April 26, 1647 and received his doctorate on September 9, 1647 to the doctor of law. In 1650 he became a full professor of law. In literature, Georg Werner is often ascribed to poems, which, however, were written by a deacon of the same name in Königsberg / Prussia.

Werner had on January 25, 1642 Anna Elisabeth (* June 24, 1619 in Söllingen; † March 11, 1663 in Helmstedt), the daughter of the princely Brunswick bailiff Georg Creitz († September 11, 1661 in Helmstedt) and his wife Maria, the Daughter of the bailiff in Jerxheim Franz Keydel and his wife Elisabeth Steinbring, the adopted daughter of Johann Thomas Cludius, married. The marriage resulted in seven sons and four daughters. From the children we know: Christian Werner († young after baptism), Ursula Werner (born July 4, 1644 in Helmstedt; April 1, 1674 ibid. Roth R 2983) married.
