Eduard Emil Koch (born January 30, 1809 at Solitude Palace ; † April 27, 1871 in Stuttgart ) was a German pastor and hymnologist.

Life

The son of medical officer Friedrich Koch and Margarethe Koch, b. Sigrist, graduated from high school illustrious in Stuttgart and then the seminar in Urach , before studying theology in Tübingen from 1826 to 1830 . During his studies in 1826 he became a member of the Germania Tübingen fraternity . He was considered to be one of the most active and brisk members of his fraternity and was therefore imprisoned several times at Hohentübingen Castle . In 1830 he became vicar in Ehningen , in 1837 pastor in Großaspach , and in 1847 pastor in Heilbronn . He later became dean there. His career took a turn when he tried to prevent the performance of Haydn's Creation in a church belonging to the Heilbronn deanery. The parish church council followed its view that such an event was un- and anti-church, but the consistory overturned the decision. In protest, Koch applied for the parish in the village of Erdmannhausen . He died of smallpox on a trip to Stuttgart, where he wanted to obtain his complete removal from office. His tomb in the Hoppenlauffriedhof has been preserved.

In 1847 Koch published the history of hymns and hymns , of which several new editions were later published.

The marriage with Marie Auguste Speidel in 1837 resulted in two children.
