Director and screenwriter was Joseph Krumgold, who also processed the film literarily in 1942: his children's book Sweeney's Adventure , based on Adventures in the Bronx , was published in 1942 by Random House .

Adventure in the Bronx was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Documentary Short Film " in 1942 , but could not prevail against Churchill's Island .
