Career

Georg Zug played two seasons for MSV Duisburg in the 2nd division. In the 1984/85 season he came to two missions as a substitute. In the 1985/86 season , MSV Duisburg rose with him from bottom of the table. He came to 15 missions, again mostly as a substitute. On September 4, 1985, he scored his only goal in the 2nd Bundesliga in a home game against SpVgg Bayreuth .

After relegation with MSV Duisburg, Zug moved to Switzerland to FC Glarus , with which he was promoted to the second highest league (NLB). He was in the starting XI of FC Glarus when they sensationally defeated FC Basel 2-1 in the NLB game on August 13, 1988 (1988/89 season) at the legendary St. Jakob stadium (“Joggeli”). He scored the decisive 2-1 win in the 88th minute.

On May 24, 2008, FC Glarus became the Swiss Veteran Champion and the Veteran Cup winner (seniors 40+). Georg Zug was one of the outstanding players on this team. Due to a suspension from the semi-final game, he could not be used in the final game and therefore acted as a coach.

Zug lives in Linthal ( Glarus Süd municipality ).
