Georg von Giech
Georg von Giech (* around 1465 ; † May 8, 1501 ) was provost in the diocese of Würzburg .
Live and act
Georg von Giech, the son of the married couple Nikolaus zu Kröttendorf and Else Neustetter, called Stürmer, came from the old Franconian noble family von Giech . In 1454 he became canon in Würzburg and from 1476 to 1496 he was a regional judge of the Duchy of Franconia . As provost of Neumünster Monastery , he gave the Bütthard office to the cathedral chapter on March 7, 1494 . In the same year he became provost of the cathedral and remained in office until his death. His grave is in the Würzburg Cathedral .
Others
During a pilgrimage in 1476, which had been initiated by Hans Böhm , Georg appeared with a false report and spread the rumor that warring federal farmers had come from Switzerland to alliance with the pilgrims of the Niklashaus and to cause an uproar. These and other false reports convinced the initially hesitant city councils and sovereigns of the supposed danger that was brewing here. Therefore the citizens and children of the country were forbidden to participate in the Niklashaus pilgrimage.
