Georg von Rosen

Johan Georg Otto von Rosen (* Paris February 13, 1843 , † Stockholm 1923 ) was a Swedish count and painter.

Life

Von Rosen studied at the Art Academy in Stockholm from 1857 to 1861 . In 1862 he was at the World Exhibition in London , where he got to know the historical work of the Belgian Hendrik Leys , which made a strong impression on von Rosen. Von Rosen then went to Belgium in 1863, where he met H. Leys personally. After his return to Sweden, he created the painting Entry of Sten Sture the Elder in Stockholm , which was rewarded with a royal medal. Then he started a trip to Egypt , Palestine , Syria , the Ottoman Empire as well as Greece and Hungary , where he studied painting. In 1866 he was in Rome and then von Rosen was again with Hendrik Leys until his death in 1869. He was later in Munich with Karl Piloty and then in Italy, whereupon he returned to Sweden in 1871.

In 1872 von Rosen became a member of the art academy, in 1874 an associate professor and in 1880 a full professor of figure drawing and painting. From 1881 to 1887 he was director of the academy's teaching facility. In 1896 he received a large gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in Berlin .
