George Athor Deng
George Athor Deng Dut (* 1962 in Khorfulus County, Jonglei , then Sudan ; † December 19, 2011 in Morobo near Juba ) was a politician, commander of the SPLA and rebel leader in South Sudan .
George Athor was born in the Khorfulus area (Canal County) in the north of the state of Jonglei as Padang- Dinka (also White Nile Dinka ). He failed as an independent candidate in the gubernatorial election in his state in April 2010. Since then he has accused the SPLA of electoral fraud and corruption and led a rebellion against the SPLA-appointed government of South Sudan. He received support from various ethnic groups that feel disadvantaged by the SPLA.
