George Beverly Shea

George Beverly Shea (born February 1, 1909 in Winchester , Ontario - † April 16, 2013 ) was a Canadian gospel singer, composer and Grammy award winner .

Life

Shea was born in Canada to a Methodist pastor . As a child he was active in his father's church choir , later during his training at Houghton College in the glee club of his school. In 1943 he was invited to sing the evangelical American revival preacher Billy Graham on his radio show in Chicago . From then on, Shea was an integral part of the evangelism events of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and has been part of Billy Graham's closest staff ever since. Shea was one of the group of employees around Billy Graham who set up a voluntary code of conduct as the basis of their missionary work, the so-called Modesto Manifesto . As a singer he has given concerts around the world, was inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame in 1978 and won a Grammy Award .
