George Butler (director)
George Butler (* 1944 in London ) is a British documentary filmmaker best known for his film Pumping Iron .
Career
Butler started his career as a photographer , in 1971 he provided pictures for The New Soldier by John Kerry , who later became the 68th Secretary of State of the United States under Barack Obama . In 1977 he made the documentary Pumping Iron , which deals with the preparation of bodybuilders for competitions , including actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno . For the documentary The Endurance , published in 2000 , he was nominated and awarded numerous prizes.
In 2004, George Butler made the documentary Going Upriver , which deals with John Kerry's military career in Vietnam and his later protest against the Vietnam War .
Butler was accidentally pronounced dead in an obituary in late December 2008 by a good friend, television presenter Charlie Rose , because Rose mistook him for music producer George Butler .
