content
The film describes the development of John Kerry from his youth, through his education, his voluntary entry for service in Vietnam, his stay in Vietnam, his return and his active leadership role in the protest of Vietnam veterans against the continuation of the war. The focus of the documentary is on Kerry's experiences in Vietnam and his role in protest. His subsequent political career up to and including the presidential candidacy are not examined. The film clearly documents Kerry's service on the so-called Swift Boats (patrol boats), u. a. also the events surrounding Kerry's medals, which were questioned in 2004. The film also highlights Kerry's early confrontation with John P. O'Neill , one of the founders of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth group .
