Charles Peete " Charlie " Rose, Jr. (born January 5, 1942 in Henderson, North Carolina ) is an American television presenter and journalist . From 1991 he hosted the talk show Charlie Rose , which was broadcast nationally by PBS from 1993 and worldwide by Bloomberg Television from 2009. Due to allegations of sexual harassment against him , the show was discontinued in November 2017.

Life

Rose was the correspondent for 60 Minutes II from its start in January 1999 to its removal in September 2005; after that he was a correspondent for 60 minutes .

Rose received his bachelor's degree in history from Duke University in 1964 . It was there that he met his wife Mary. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity . In 1968 he completed the Juris Doctor program.

He interviewed various celebrities, including Baschar al-Assad (2013), President Barack Obama with his wife Michelle (2012), Warren Buffett , David Rockefeller , Noam Chomsky (2003), Henry Kissinger , Leonardo DiCaprio (2004), John Oliver , Sarah Palin , Christoph Waltz , Quentin Tarantino , Larry Ellison , David Foster Wallace , Farah Diba . and Vladimir Putin . He had cameo appearances in various television programs and films, for example House of Cards , the Simpsons , Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Elegy or the art of loving . The interview Rose conducted in 2008 with US Vice President Sarah Palin is part of the plot of the film Game Change .

Rose and his wife Mary divorced in 1980 after twelve years of marriage. His partner since 1993 is Amanda Burden , a stepdaughter of CBS founder William S. Paley .

MeToo affair

In the wake of the Weinstein scandal , Rose was accused of sexual harassment by eight women on November 20, 2017 . The broadcasters CBS News and PBS suspended the broadcast of its programs until the allegations were clarified; at the same time he received an exemption from CBS .
