George Draper

George Dayton (born March 6, 1857 in Clifton Springs , New York , † February 18, 1938 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) was an American entrepreneur .

Life

Dayton came from a Presbyterian family. He began his career as a banker and eventually ran the Bank of Worthington. In this position he began to carry out major construction projects that shaped the cityscape of Minneapolis. One of his projects in 1902 was a multi-story department store. Here he took over the business of his main tenant after a year and successfully entered the retail sector. The major US retail group Target in Roseville , Minnesota developed from its activities . Dayton married Emma Chadwick in 1878.
