George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus
George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus ( 1429 - 14 November 1462 ) was a Scottish nobleman from the Douglas family .
Life
George was a son of William Douglas, 2nd Earl of Angus . and his wife Margaret Hay. He followed his brother James as Earl of Angus 1446th
George negotiated a peace treaty with England in 1449 and 1459 and was Scottish ambassador to England in 1451. When the "Black Douglas" was broken up, George stood loyally at the side of Jacob II and thereby secured significant gains in land and property of the former Earls of Douglas.
During the immaturity of Jacob III. As the head of the so-called "Old Lords" he had a decisive influence on the government. In 1462 he fought victoriously against the English at the Battle of Alnwick.
The Earl was married to Isabel, daughter of Sir John Sibbald, and had with her the following children, among others:
