George Godfrey
George Godfrey (* 25. January 1897 in Mobile , Alabama , USA , as FEAB Smith Williams ; † 13. August 1947 in Los Angeles , California , USA ) was an American boxer in the heavyweight division .
Career
The sturdy normal boom , trained by Jack Blackburn and managed by Jimmy Baron , which bore the battle name Black Shadow of Leiperville and whose height (1.91 m) and range (202 m) was considered very large at the time, won his debut fight on December 1, 1919 against his compatriot Eddie Jamison by classic knockout .
In total, Godfrey completed well over 100 fights.
In 2007 Godfrey was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame . However, he could never achieve a world championship belt.
