George Magan, Baron Magan of Castletown

George Morgan Magan, Baron Magan of Castletown (born November 14, 1945 in Delhi ) is a conservative politician and member of the House of Lords .

He comes from an Anglo-Irish family and is the son of Brigadier Bill Magan, who was the director of MI5 . He went to Winchester College and then became an accountant.

Magan has been Treasurer of the Conservative Party Treasurer since 2003 and is currently Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Foundation . The Sunday Times Rich List conservatively estimates his net worth at £ 60 million. It was reported that he made $ 20 million from the 1995 acquisition of Hambro Magan by Natwest Markets. At the height of the bull market it was reportedly worth $ 200 million.

Magan was one of the founders of Hambro Magan and is now a minority shareholder in the private equity firm Rhône Group . He is the director of a number of other firms in the investment banking and private equity space. He is also a member of a number of international boards of directors.

He helped set up a foundation for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and from 1996 to 2001 he was trustee of the Royal Opera House .

House of Lords

On January 25, 2011, he was promoted to Life Peer as Baron Magan of Castletown , of Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea , and was inducted into the House of Lords on January 27 , where he sits for the Tories .
