George Michelakis

George Michelakis (born August 21, 1972 ) is a South African chess player of Greek origin who played for Australia until 1992 . He has held the title of International Master since 1995 .

He took part in the U20 Junior World Championship in Buenos Aires in 1992 , where he finished third, and in 1993 he won the open championship of the Natal Province .

With the South African team he took part in the Chess Olympiads in 1996 (in Yerevan , on the first board) and 2004 (in Calvià , on the second board) and the African team championship in 1993 in Cairo . Michelakis played in the British Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) in the 2003/04 season for Betsson.com in the top division, Division 1, and he also took part in the 1st division in the Greek league.

His Elo rating is 2425 (as of October 2018), which would put him ahead of Daniel Cawdery in the South African Elo ranking. However, he is listed as inactive as he has not played a rated game since the Greek team championship in 2005. His highest rating to date was 2438 from July to December 2004.
