George Mitchell (politician)

George Mitchell ( April 1, 1867 , † July 4, 1937 ) was a British Rhodesian politician and Prime Minister in Southern Rhodesia from July to September 1933 . He followed Howard Unwin Moffat into office.

In 1889 he emigrated from Great Britain to South Africa . Six years later he became the manager of the Bank of Africa in Bulawayo . In 1901 he left the bank and became general manager of the Rhodesia Exploration and Development Company. He retired in 1918. From then on, he devoted himself to politics. On November 1, 1930 Mitchell became Minister of Mines and Labor, from May 19, 1932 Minister of Mines and Agriculture. He lost his seat in the elections in September 1933.
