George Perkovich

George Robert Perkovich III (* 1958 ) is an American political scientist and peace researcher , best known for his book India's Nuclear Bomb: The Impact on Global Proliferation .

Life

After attending school, Perkovich first studied political science at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Politics). He then completed postgraduate studies in the Soviet Union at Harvard University in 1986 with a Master of Arts (MA Soviet Studies).

After serving as foreign policy advisor to Joe Biden , the Democratic US Senator from Delaware , between 1989 and 1990 , he was director of the World Security Program of the W. Alton Jones Foundation from 1990 to 2001. During this time he earned a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) in Foreign Policy from the University of Virginia in 1997 . During his work at the W. Alton Jones Foundation, among other things, he dealt with the Indian nuclear program and published the book India's Nuclear Bomb: The Impact on Global Proliferation in 1999 .

Perkovich, who is also for the Council on Foreign Relations has worked, since 2002, vice president for studies of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace ( Carnegie Endowment for International Peace ).
