Carl Philipp Theodor Schorn (also Karl Schorn ; born November 28, 1818 in Essen , † December 10, 1900 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer and politician.

Life

After graduating from high school, Schorn studied law in Bonn and Berlin from 1836 onwards at the Royal High School at Burgplatz in Essen . In Bonn he was a member of the Corps Guestphalia . In 1838/39 he did his one-year volunteer service in Berlin , which he finished as a lieutenant in the Landwehr.

In 1840 Schorn became auscultator of the regional court in Berlin, in the same year auscultator of the regional and municipal courts in Essen, in 1841 the auscultator of the higher regional court in Hamm , 1842 of the regional court trainee in Cologne , and in 1846 of the regional court assessor in Cologne. In 1847 he was given leave of absence to study mining in Essen and during this time he was a consultative assessor in the legal department of the mining office . In 1847 he made a long trip to Austria, Northern Italy and Switzerland, and in 1848 to Belgium. After his return in 1848 he became Jakob Grimm's successor in the Frankfurt parliament. From November 23, 1848 to May 26, 1849 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly (parliamentary group Württemberger Hof ).

In October 1849 Schorn was appointed district court assessor in Koblenz , 1850 in Bonn, and from 1852 in Elberfeld. In 1853 he became state procurator at the Düsseldorf Regional Court , in Trier in 1861 , and in Bonn in 1868. From 1870 to 1872 Schorn was president of the court martial in Metz . In 1873 he became President of the Chamber at the Saarbrücken Regional Court , and in 1878 President of the Regional Court in Koblenz. In 1883 he retired.

In 1862 and 1867 Schorn traveled to the world exhibitions in London and Paris . In 1874 another long trip followed through Italy. In addition to his professional activity, he was also interested in questions of cultural history and published several papers on this. In 1851 he was co-founder of the Beethoven Society in Bonn.

Schorn died in 1900 at the age of 82. His grave, which is still partially preserved, is located in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne .
