George W. Snedecor

George Waddel Snedecor (born October 20, 1881 in Memphis (Tennessee) , † February 15, 1974 in Amherst (Massachusetts) ) was an American statistician .

Snedecor invented the F-distribution and was a professor of statistics at Iowa State University .

He received an honorary doctorate from North Carolina State University in 1956 and from Iowa State University in 1958 and the 1970 Wilks Memorial Award .
