George Ward Hunt.

George Ward Hunt (born July 30, 1825 in Buckhurst , Berkshire , † July 29, 1877 in Bad Homburg before the height ) was a British statesman.

George Ward Hunt studied at Oxford , became a barrister in 1851 and, after unsuccessful applications for a seat in Parliament, in 1857 a member of the House of Commons for Northampton .

He joined the Conservative Party , distinguished himself through diligence and diligence and made himself particularly noticeable through the energy with which he pushed through a cattle disease law favorable to rural interests against the government bill.

He became Secretary of the Treasury under Lord Derby in 1866 and rose to Treasury Chancellor (Finance Minister) in February 1868 , which he resigned when the Conservative Cabinet resigned in December of the same year.

In February 1874, he took over the post of First Lord of the Admiralty in the Disraeli cabinet , but made himself very unpopular by a decree that prevented the vigorous prosecution of the slave trade.
