George Wassouf

George Wassouf (born December 23, 1961 in Kafroun , Tartus Governorate , Syria ) is a Syrian musician and singer.

George Wassouf has sang at events and public festivals since he was twelve and was discovered by George Khouri at a wedding. Khouri became his first manager and producer when Wassouf was twelve years old. After moving to Lebanon, he became well known in a short time.

At the age of 16, he appeared on a television program called Studio El-Fan in 1980 with his song El-Hawa Sultan ('Love is a Power'). He received the name Sultan El-Tarab ('the Sultan of Edible Music') in the media , and that name has been with him all his life to this day.

Wassouf has released more than 30 albums in his career and given many concerts around the world. Wassouf is not only famous in the Arab world , but also known in Europe and the United States as one of the best Arab singers.

There are numerous rumors about drugs and love life surrounding his life. In Sweden he was arrested for possession of 30 grams of cocaine. Wassouf married his wife Shalimar at the age of 16 and has three sons with her, Wadi, Hatem and George Junior.

He is a Christian and also has Lebanese citizenship. Wassouf is an avowed supporter of Assad and has made positive comments about him several times during the Syrian civil war . In June 2014 Wassouf published a picture on his Facebook page that shows him with Mahir al-Assad , Bashar's younger brother.
