George Zongolopoulos
Giorgos Zongolopoulos ( Greek Γιώργος Ζογγολόπουλος , born March 1, 1901 in Athens ; † May 11, 2004 ) was a Greek sculptor of the modern age and artistic representative of the generation of the 30s .
biography
Zongolopoulos was born in 1901 to a family from Corinth in Athens in 1901 (his date of birth was misrepresented as 1903 for a lifetime).
Zongolopoulos studied from 1924 to 1930 at the Athens School of Fine Arts , with a scholarship he continued his studies in France and Italy. Even before his studies he had met the future architect Patroklos Karantinos during his military service , and both later worked together on many projects. In 1936 he married Helen Paschalidou, whom he had met during a public assignment as an employee of the Ministry of Education.
From 1946 he exhibited a total of nine times at the Venice Biennale . From 1988 his work with umbrellas became known, including one in the Cour d 'Honneur in a building of the European Union and his most famous one on the Nea Paralia promenade in Thessaloniki . In Germany in 1998 the temporary installation Tel-Néant 1998 was on view on Wittenbergplatz in Berlin and in Weimar.
