Georgenkapelle (Luckau)
The Georgen Chapel with the directly adjacent Hausmannsturm (term) is a late Romanesque building in Luckau in the state of Brandenburg that was formerly used by the church .
history
The brick- built buildings were built in the late Romanesque era around 1200 and initially served as a parish church. Since 1386 at the latest, they only served as a chapel . Its function as a place of worship was given up as early as the 16th century .
The tower was then increased in Gothic style to 47 m. From 1697 the tower and chapel ensemble served as the main guard. A tower guard was employed on the tower, who served in particular as a fire watch. This guard was not removed until 1910 when a tower clock was installed.
Until 1935, the building still remained firehouse of volunteer firefighters Luckau. In 1969 the tower was rebuilt. Since then, the chapel has served as a small ballroom for the city of Luckau and is used, among other things, for civil marriages. A visit and a tower climb are possible.
