Georges Andrey

Georges Andrey (born May 24, 1938 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss historian .

Life

Georges Andrey received his Matura in Classical Philology and Philosophy in France . In the early 1960s he studied at the University of Freiburg and graduated in literature . It was there that he received his doctorate in history in 1970 with a thesis on French revolutionary refugees in Freiburg . He then worked, financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation , as an assistant at the University of Bern in the field of election history . From the late 1970s he was a research assistant at the EDA . At the same time he taught media history and later modern general history at the University of Freiburg.

For the history of Switzerland and the Swiss (1982/83), the standard work of Swiss history at the time, he wrote the chapter for the period from 1798 to 1848. In 2007 he published an overall account of Swiss history, which became a bestseller in western Switzerland and was controversially discussed .
