Georges Michel
Georges Michel (born January 12, 1763 in Paris ; † June 7, 1843 there ) was a French landscape painter.
Life
Michel was a student of Nicolas-Antoine Taunay (1755-1833). His landscapes were created in the rural surroundings of Paris. The windmills of the (still) rural Montmartre play a central role in his landscapes; for this reason it is also called the Ruisdael des Montmatre . Richard Muther wrote an enthusiastic appraisal of his work in 1893. According to Thieme-Becker, a forerunner of the Barbizon School that was temporarily neglected and has been represented in museums around the world since its rediscovery in the 1920s. He was on friendly terms with the painter Lazare Bruandet (1755–1803).
