Georges Antoine Pons Rayet

Georges Antoine Pons Rayet (born December 12, 1839 in Bordeaux , † June 14, 1906 there ) was a French astronomer .

Rayet first worked at the Paris Observatory in 1863. In 1878 he founded the Observatoire de Bordeaux and directed it until his death. The Wolf-Rayet stars are named after him. He was a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences since 1892 .
