Georges Van Vrekhem

Georges Van Vrekhem (born March 28, 1935 in Wakken ; † August 31, 2012 in Auroville ) was a Flemish journalist , poet and playwright and was artistic director of the professional theater "Nederlands Toneel te Gent".

In 1964 Van Vrekhem came into contact with the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and his mother . In 1970 he joined the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry and moved to Auroville eleven years later . Georges Van Vrekhem translated selected writings from the Ramayana , the Mahabharata and books by Sri Aurobindo, his mother, Peter Heehs and Satprem into Dutch. Georges Van Vrekhem died on August 31, 2012 at his home in Auroville; he had suffered from heart failure for over 20 years.

Works

The book Voorbij de mens which is about the life and work of Sri Aurobindos and the mother was published in 1995 in the Netherlands. The English translation, entitled Beyond Man , was published in India in 1997 and has also been translated into French, German, Italian and Spanish. The American version is published by Paragon House with the title Beyond the Human Species: The Life and Work of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother .
