Georgia is a font ( font ) in 1996 by Matthew Carter for Microsoft was designed.

This modern baroque antiqua is characterized by evenness and harmony and was specially developed for clear display and optimal legibility on computer screens . This goal was achieved, among other things, by hinting by Tom Rickner and the large X-height. The proportional font with serifs also has a true italic . The Georgia is stylistically based on the fonts that are summarized in the English-speaking world as Scotch Roman .

In 2006, the Georgia experienced a resurgence on the Internet, primarily through its use on blogs. They are also used on the websites of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the New York Times .

The Georgia, like the Verdana designed by the same team , is part of Microsoft's Core fonts for the Web . It is included in all current Microsoft operating systems and is also available free of charge for other systems as part of the core fonts .
