Core fonts for the web ( "Core fonts for the Web ") is a project was Microsoft , which was launched 1996th The aim of this project was to standardize a number of fonts for use on the Internet. The project was discontinued in August 2002.

The fonts were made available for free download for Windows and Mac operating systems. Since the font license allows the fonts to be passed on in unchanged form, the fonts are widespread even after the project has been discontinued and are popular among Linux users who want a Windows-like typeface.
