Georgina Jones

Georgina Jones (born September 1, 1882 in New York City , † September 3, 1955 in Los Angeles ) was an American tennis player .

biography

Jones is the daughter of US Senator John P. Jones and the artistically interested Georgina Sullivan Jones. Motivated by this interest, she also moved to Paris with her mother and sister Alice to take singing lessons. Alice Jones later married the 1932 silver medalist in the Frederick William MacMonnies art competition . In 1900 she took part in the tennis competition at the Summer Olympics in Paris . In the individual she was clearly defeated by Yvonne Prévost at the beginning . In mixed doubles , she started with Charles Sands . The pairing also lost in round 1. Georgina's sister Marion Jones , with whom she learned tennis together, took part in the games and won bronze twice.

Later in life, Jones joined the Vedanta Society and studied Hindu philosophy and was henceforth called Sister Daya . She became a close follower of Swami Paramananda .
